I know it is not exactly the answer to the question, but one alternative to connect using the RCCLib is to develop REST services in Netweaver using the web layer (directly using ICF, BSP or the recent Netweaver Gateway). These services can be called from PHP or any other language using http calls. I also used to rely on RFC, mainly the java jco connector, but in the last couple of years I prefer web based REST services.
