Maybe not tennis but there is a lot of ping-pong between R3 and APO. In short ATP stands for available-to-promise and it is the process that determines the date and quantity of a sales order that can be delivered to the customer based on constraints (available stock, customer quotas, production capacities, etc). Some more information on this SAP documentation link.
